Boykin Springs Recreational Area

Paul and I are living in deep east Texas, which basically is a fancy way of saying we live in the middle of nowhere.

We do however live near to some forested areas with lakes and while we haven't ventured deep into the national forests here, we did find some nice wooded and secluded areas to take the dogs.

Boykin Springs has a funny name but it's a pretty great place to get in touch with nature, take some scenic walks, and let the dogs run around in the streams and forests.

At one point Kobe fell into a ravine and almost landed in a pool of water. He wasn't hurt but because he's old and not very agile, he couldn't get out. Stella had a blast running into the ravine and then back out over and over again, kind of in a way to say "haha I can get up this hill and you can't!" Dad had to come save him.

After getting out of the ravine he was much more careful for the rest of the day!

The third time we went to Boykin Springs we took supplies to make a campfire and cook hot dogs and marshmallows. Stella liked helping dad collect firewood.

We were going to go back to Boykin Springs this weekend but we found out there was a hippie convention happening there this weekend (seriously - here's the news article: http://lufkindailynews.com/news/local/article_59b44be4-92af-11e2-b603-001a4bcf887a.html) Side note: Zavalla is the town they're talking about in the article, which is the closest civilization to the national forest lol
